Abstract

Interlaminar damage (delamination) is one of the most severe failure modes in laminated composites, particularly when compression loads are applied. As a result, assessing delamination damage has always been a critical issue for laminated composites as a reference for resistance and damage tolerance in real-world applications. Initial delamination occurs as a result of several factors, including the manufacturing process and low-velocity impact loads, such as falling objects. Because of the low impact load, there will be delamination that is not visible to the naked eye. However, if this occurs, laminated composites' resilience will suffer significantly. A quasi-experimental method will be used in this study. This study employs several types of initial delamination by varying the aspect ratio, radius, and direction. The energy and deamination propagation patterns are analyzed based on this variation. Based on the findings, it is possible to conclude that the simulation approach used can be used as a reference in predicting delamination behavior.
